JUXTAPOSITIONS. Director's Statement

I am very happy to present "JUXTAPOSITIONS," the latest installment in the "HUMAN CONCEPTS" series and a continuation of my exploration into the profound themes of human existence through the lens of generative A.I. This film is not only deeply personal but also ventures into territory that may be considered “controversial” due to its raw portrayal of pressing global issues.

In "JUXTAPOSITIONS," I delve into the topic of forced human migration— a subject that has captivated my attention since my first documentary, "The Universality of It All." With A.I., I have transformed complex concepts into striking visual metaphors that I hope will resonate deeply and linger in the minds of viewers. The film is designed to be a wake-up call, particularly aimed at major global institutions like the United Nations, urging a reevaluation of the systemic forces that drive forced migration.

The narrative is woven with symbols and metaphors, such as golden textures falling like rain juxtaposed against desperate crowds crossing deserts, and dark, oozing petroleum. These images are crafted to critique the intertwined systems of human and environmental exploitation dominated by private interests, particularly in the oil and gas sectors.

This project poses challenging questions about the ongoing crisis of forced (and also economic) migration, pushing the audience to confront how many such tragedies we, as a global community, are willing to accept. "JUXTAPOSITIONS" is a bold statement, one that emerges from a deep-seated need to address blatant injustices and give voice to the stories of those I have met. The use of dramatic imagery is intended to provoke and unsettle, reflecting the intensity of the emotions involved.

I am both excited and nervous about the release of this film, aware that its provocative content may stir strong reactions. Nevertheless, it is a film that needed to be made—a visual outpouring of the emotions and convictions that have been building within me. It is my hope that "JUXTAPOSITIONS" will not only be seen as an artistic endeavor but as a crucial commentary on the injustices that shape our reality.

Once again, I thank you so much for taking the time to watch it.

From Barcelona with love,

Andres.
