New Series. All made with Gen A.I.

From a young age, my passion for storytelling has been driven by a desire to explore and convey the truths of the human experience. However, throughout my career in documentary filmmaking and journalism, I often encountered stories and emotions that were impossible to express within the constraints of these formats. There was a realm of creativity and expression that remained uncharted due to the limitations of my traditional medium.

The emergence of Generative AI arrived at a crucial moment in my life, when I was grappling with the future of my career. Initially, even just the idea of AI-filmmaking filled me with intimidation. The reason I started learning how to use these new programs was initially born out of utter fear.

And yet, what started as a cautious exploration, slowly transformed into a tool that allowed me to experiment and express myself in ways I never thought possible. Suddenly, I was able to visualize ideas and emotions in ways that were previously unattainable, providing a new outlet for expressing that dance I constantly see of beauty and darkness in the world. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I can finally articulate thoughts and ideas that have lingered in my mind, unvoiced, for years.

I think that the process of AI filmmaking, full of uncertainties and the necessity for multiple iterations, is like a new dynamic form of “directing.” Just as a traditional director communicates a vision to their crew, AI filmmaking needs a clear conceptual direction and a readiness to adapt creatively to the technology’s output. It’s about what’s the idea, what’s the prompt, what’s the meaning.

In this new phase, I am not just observing or reporting; I am actively participating in the creation of visual metaphors that explore complex global issues like inequality, conflict, and social themes deeply ingrained in my previous documentary work but reimagined through the lens of generative AI.

This project, which includes short films freely available online and others destined for film festivals, makes for a hybrid distribution approach reflective of the experimental nature of the work itself. It is one of my most personal and ambitious projects to date, combining my background in factual storytelling with the limitless possibilities of this new tech.

For those who are still reading this, I thank you for all your support and I truly hope you enjoy it. It’s been a long time since I haven’t independently released my work online, and I’m very excited for what’s to come out of this new experience.

From Barcelona with love,

Andrés.
